Work

Thus far I have found the long hours and long commute kind of pleasant. I get home, eat, relax, maybe do some errands, and go to bed pretty early. At work, the hours pass surprisingly quickly because I'm busy with things. In the car, I get absorbed with the radio or my own thoughts, and the complete lack of traffic just makes driving zen-like.

Perhaps it's because it's still early and fresh. Maybe it will wear on me with time. I don't know. Things in my life are always constantly changing, it seems. I think some stability could be nice for once.

I bought my plane ticket for Craig's wedding yesterday. I'm going to be spending a long weekend in Seattle, and come back and move in immediately. The present idea is to either pay for an expensive parking spot near downtown, or actually just park my car in San Jose. I could take the Muni to the Caltrain station, take Caltrain to San Jose, and then drive from San Jose to Campbell daily. While on the train, I could read, listen to music or even work. If I do that I'll have to start it soon because it sounds like parking in Nob Hill is just about impossible.

I think one of the hardest things as a person is not letting the grind affect you.

And it doesn't have to be the "9-5" grind, either. Eating your favorite food every night for two weeks can become a grind.

Not to discourage you, but your passage about the new job made me think about that.

A challenging thing to do is to view and remember everything as if you're seeing it for the first time. If we could do that I bet life would be a lot richer.

I've done more complaining about the grind than anyone, but there are some very significant differences between this job and my last. I suppose we'll have to see how I am in a few months, but the fact is, unless I think up a good idea, and earn enough money that I can afford to pursue it, the 9-5 is going to be in my future and there's not really any avoiding it.

Well, I didn't mean to knock the 9-5, either. That's just the stereotypical grind, I believe.

As long as you like what you're doing, or working towards a better future.

And really, this job sounds nice, the drive and the actual job itself.
